Off the Streets works to get currently homeless people out of shelters and the streets into housing.   We can act very quickly — the transition from homelessness to a furnished room or apartment can take place within a day or two.

Off The Streets gratefully acknowledges the support of the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut who has given us a grant to fund security deposits.

We work together with other organizations to house the most vulnerable — the homeless.   Here is Mike’s story

We provide the following kinds of help:

  • Moral support and encouragement — to help people believe that they can escape the trap of homelessness, and to help them retain their housing
  • Up to one month security deposit
  • Furniture and household items

If you are interested in donating furniture, see the list of items we do and do not need on the “Donate furniture” page.  Please contact our furniture coordinator Mike Roberts (email is preferred at Corefocus@me.com or call 203-249-3586) with questions.

In addition to furniture, we provide a basket of essentials to people when they move in. Please see our “Furniture and Household Goods” page if you are interested in helping out by preparing a Welcome Basket.

In the 15 years of our history, Off the Streets Danbury has taken over 800 people off the streets and into housing — including security deposits to house 58 people in 2023.

Off theI Streets is completely volunteer based.  Although we team with local social service agencies, we have no paid staff and minimal overhead.  If you would like to get involved, please see our “volunteer your time” page.   We can use help with furniture and household goods, and would really appreciate donation of a panel truck for deliveries.
